🌍 Is this what energy looks like in 2030?The energy landscape is set to change rapidly in the coming years. We have tried to capture images of the central trends that will redefine how we generate, store, and consume power:🌞 Renewable energy and energy storageThe shift towards renewable energy is not just continuing; it's accelerating. Solar and wind power is likely to more than double in capacity. Energy storage, including EV batteries, will become vital for balancing renewable production's intermittent nature, ensuring a steady supply meets fluctuating demands.🔋 Decentralization and energy prosumersThe future is decentralized, with homes not just consuming energy but producing and storing it through solar panels and in-house battery systems. This empowerment of consumers, turning them into 'prosumers,' fosters energy independence and resilience.🌐 Grid modernization and smart technologyGrowing electricity demand and energy flowing back and forth means the grid must evolve. Energy companies that prioritise investments in software and hardware innovations that support grid flexibility and smart grids will have an advantage over those that prioritise massive infrastructure expansion projects.🤖 AI and energy efficiencyAI will be pivotal in refining energy solutions. By using advanced AI, energy companies can create a host of new opportunities for themselves, ranging from optimizing existing solutions to creating completely new approaches to energy generation and delivery.🚗 Electrification of TransportEV numbers will surpass 350 million by 2030 and provide support for the grid through load balancing and peak load shaving, enabled by advanced smart charge systems. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies will become widespread, allowing EVs to provide power and flexibility not just to the grid but also to homes and energy production. What do you think of the predictions? Let us know in the comments below. #FutureOfEnergy #SmartGrids #ElectricVehicles

Why We Need Advanced Smart Charging to Optimize EV Sustainability 🌍Environmentally focused EV owners need answers to questions like, "What is the difference between smart charging and advanced smart charging?" and "What is the connection between the two and sustainability?" 🤔The crux of the matter is that EVs’ sustainability benefits hinge on how they are charged. 🔌Charging an EV to maximize sustainability impacts or be as cost-effective as possible is all about timing. ⏰Basically, you want to consider things like:• Availability of renewable energy ☀️🌬️• Electricity and tariff rates 💵• Demands on the energy grid 🔋These factors are often interconnected. For example, in places with variable energy prices or tariffs, the lowest prices often occur during times when renewable energy is available and the demands on the energy grid are low. In other words, you can often save money by supporting the energy grid and charging with renewable energy. 💸However, this is often more complex than it sounds. 🧐Let's say you want to charge an EV as sustainably as possible for two hours at night. Renewable energy production is highest from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. and from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m. In this scenario, those are also the hours with the lowest energy prices - which is very often the case. 🌌Many available smart charge solutions can only start your charging at 1 am and then let it run for two hours. ⏳Advanced smart charge technology, like the solutions from True Energy A/S - a Landis+Gyr Company takes it to the next level by automatically starting, stopping, and restarting charging to get you the best possible result. At the same time, it can be used for managed charging where an energy company can control the EV charging to avoid overburdening demands on the grid and avoid expensive, high-impact grid infrastructure construction projects to handle the growth in EVs. 🚗⚡In this way, you help reduce reliance on fossil fuels, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, support the growth of renewable energy, and stabilize the grid – and unlock the full sustainability potential of EVs. 💚#SustainableCharging #SmartCharging #EVCharging

🌊 How tidal energy kites work 🌬️At 12 metres wide and weighing 28 tonnes, the Dragon 12 from Swedish company Minesto is likely the most powerful tidal energy kite in the world today when comparing size to output. This marvel can generate 1.2MW of clean electricity once operational — enough to power around 1,000 homes. 🏡💡Now being deployed in the waters around the Faroe Islands, these kites are part of an ambitious energy transformation plan aiming for 100% renewable energy by 2030. 🌍🌿 An experiment with two kites has already contributed energy to the islands' national grid for over a year. The Faroe Islands, along with its energy provider Elfelagið SEV - Electrical company and Minesto, plan on adding up to 100 individual kites with a combined capacity of 120 MW tidal energy, creating an estimated 350 GWh annually. This would cover about 40 per cent of the Faroe Islands’ electricity usage. ⚡📈On-board computers steer the kites so they "fly" in the prevailing current. At slack tide, the kites idle at a constant depth. The electricity is generated by rotors on the kite as it moves in a figure 8 through the water, increasing its speed and power output. From there, the electricity is sent onshore via a tethering cable that anchors the kite to the seabed. 🌐🔋True Energy A/S - a Landis+Gyr Company, is also contributing to the Faroe Islands' energy transformation. We want to say thank you to Minesto for letting us use their video for this post and for the inspirational work they do! #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #CleanTech #Innovation #TidalEnergy #GreenTech

Why grid flexibility is core to sustainability – and the future of the energy grid 🌍🔌Grid edge flexibility and intelligence transform the energy sector and increase the ability to integrate more renewables like solar and wind.An example of grid edge flexibility and technology in action is the collaboration between Landis+Gyr and SPAN 🔋⚡This partnership has developed groundbreaking solutions that include advanced metering and visibility into distributed energy resources (DERs).But what exactly is grid edge flexibility? 🌞💡The grid edge refers to where the public electricity supply connects with private premises. Here, innovations are enabling a two-way dialogue between energy consumption and production. So, what does it mean for utilities and consumers?🏡🚗Utilities benefit from improved load management and reduced need for costly infrastructure upgrades, thanks to more precise data and control over the energy flow at the grid edge.Consumers, on the other hand, gain from being able to manage their energy usage more effectively, which not only lowers costs but also decreases their environmental footprint. Innovative technologies like smart charging for electric vehicles exemplify how grid edge flexibility can lead to more sustainable consumption patterns.👉 Dive deeper into grid edge flexibility and how it is shaping sustainable energy practices in our article here: https://lnkd.in/gVZfZc4h#EnergyInnovation #Sustainability #SmartGrid #RenewableEnergy

How sustainable is your EV? 🌱🚗Electric Vehicles (EVs) are often touted as the greener choice, but just how sustainable are they really when considering lifetime emissions? Facts and analysis from the European Energy Agency and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency show that EVs are the future of environmentally conscious driving.Or, as Sergey Paltsev from the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change puts it in an article by Andrew Moseman: “[…]electric cars are actually much, much better in terms of the impact on the climate in comparison to internal combustion vehicles. And in time, that comparative advantage of electric cars is going to grow.” How that gap will continue to grow, is something we explore in our latest article. The article includes what the growth of renewables will mean for the sustainability of EVs and the growing importance of advanced smart charging for both energy companies and EV owners.
