KALUSKOS” is a horror entry in the current Cinemalaya Film Festival that will have its gala night on Monday, August 8, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. It stars Coleen Garcia-Crawford and shot on location in an old house is Silay City in Negros.

“Coleen is very good in the role of a mother who is in the middle of a custody battle with her husband, Karl Medina, over her only daughter, Rebekah, played by talented child actress Queenzy Calma,” says director Roman Perez. “Strange happenings start to occur when she sees another version of her daughter. Naging dalawa ang anak niya and mysteriously, she connects better with the child na alam niyang kopya lang or doppelganger ng tunay niyang anak kaysa sa real daughter niya.”

How did Coleen find her role as Amaya, the beleaguered mom confronted by a very bewildering predicament in “Kaluskos”?

“It’s very challenging,” she says. “It’s good I’m now a real mother and this is very helpful for me in internalizing my role as a mom na may kakaibang problema sa anak niya. I don’t know if I’d be able to play the mother role as effectively kundi pa ako tunay na mom in real life. Dala-dala ko ang pagiging mommy ko ng baby namin, si Amari, sa shooting.”

Coleen was last seen as the avenging daughter of a man killed by a syndicate in a Vivamax movie, “Adarna Gang.” She says she recommends “Kaluskos” to all those who enjoy having a good scare. “I guarantee you, kung mahilig kayo sa horror films, marami itong terrifying sequences. So be prepared na matakot kayo. Playing a mom beset with horrifying problems in ‘Kaluskos’ came to me naturally. I’m genuinely afraid for my child.”

Eula Valdes is back after five years with GMA in afternoon drama, “Return to Paradise,” where she plays the mother of Elle Villanueva, who is given her biggest break here as the leading lady of the dashing and hunky Derrick Monasterio.

Teresa Loyzaga, the mother of Derrick, turns out to be Eula’s mortal enemy and framed her up for a crime she didn’t commit, sending her to prison. Of course, Teresa is indignant when she learns that her son has fallen in love with the daughter of her foremost rival.

So how will she gauge Elle’s acting since they have many scenes together? “Okay naman siya. Hindi siya takot makipag-eksena sa mga mas experienced actresses like Teresa and I. I look at her eyes in our scenes together and she doesn’t get intimidated. And I like her morena good looks. I really like her skin color. Maganda tingnan on screen.”

How about Derrick? “He’s tall, good looking, leading man talaga ang dating. At nakakaarte rin. I really think magki-click ang tambalan nila ni Elle dito sa ‘Return to Paradise.’ They have good on-screen chemistry.”

Off cam, Eula used to be in a relationship with actor Rocky Salumbides. They were together for 13 years. It was Rocky who announced last month in his social media account that he is now on with the daughter of Pilar Pilapil, Pia, who used to be together with model Gerry Gonzalo.

“Kumusta Bro” is the interactive live Boys’ Love (BL) series on Kumu last year, where the audience can interact with the characters in the story. It is the first-ever series to use a live stream app as the main platform. Now, it is going to be a full-length TV series on Vivamax Plus with all fresh new episodes.

The main cast is led by Sky Quizon as Thirdy, Kristof Garcia as Bench, Allen Cecilio as Dean and RJ Agustin as Cerwin. They are known as the original four. A new addition is the hunky JM Mendoza.

Sky is often asked if he’s a grandson of Dolphy and he wants to make it clear that he’s not related at all to the Quizons. He is a summa cum laude speech and communications graduate from UP Diliman and he first joined PBB Ocho. He’s now a host of PBB and has also starred in “Viral Scandal” and an episode of “Magpakailanman.”

Now dubbed as “Kumusta Bro: The Series,” it’s the story of Thirdy (Sky), a brokenhearted guy who got reconnected with his schoolmates when they all reunite inside an elevator: Bench (Kristof), his high school friend who told him he has feelings for him; Dean (Allen), his longtime secret admirer; and Cerwin (RJ), his ex-boyfriend who owns a coffee shop.

In other words, ang haba ng buhok ni Thirdy dahil pinag-aagawan siya ng tatlong boys! And not only that, Fonz (JM Mendoza), his childhood sweetheart also returns to his life. You can now follow their journey on Vivamax.
